In 1994, a group of individuals started the Magic Valley Model Railroaders, nonprofit organization at the fairgrounds. As a 501(c3) nonprofit organization, we receive all our funding from the members and donations from the public. Adults and kids love to come see the model railroad.
The club has 4 different sized layouts. The smallest N Scale, the locomotives are only 1 3/4" tall, to the hugest, G Scale at 4 3/4" in height.
At 12 Noon each day, The Challenger and The Big Boy, 2 of the largest steam locomotives in the United States will run side by side on the HO Track.
2022 Fair is the showoff year for the new N Scale layout. In March 2022, we received the layout from a club in Oregon, has been reinstalled at the railroad building at the fairgrounds. The "knockout" you will notice as you enter the building will be 2 N Scale helices which reach a height over 7 foot to move the trains from the west to the east side of the building and back.
The O Scale or Lionel will have a couple of tasks for the young & old kids to try. You can be the conductor & announce the arrival and departure of the passenger trains or announce the stops at "Albuquerque" or "La Junta", or load a gondola with old used rail on the electric crane.
There are replicas of towns, farms, industrial buildings, mines and even a logging mountain or two.
Can you find where the buffalo roam or where the auto repair shop is at?
Stop by and find the excitement of the trains running. Check out the train sounds - just like the real ones.
